Latest works: Through her work as a performance psychologist with elite professional sports people, Miranda Banks knows the challenges faced by those striving to achieve.
I have recently returned to my English homeland after living in Australia
for the last 20 years, working for the last ten years as a performance psychologist
in sport, business and life. My current particular interest is in the domain
of developing “Presence”: that ability to exude power for purpose; to be impressive
in specific situations.
For the last few years, my clients have been predominantly executive management and business leaders, covering performance coaching issues related to personal success, personal branding, leadership, business-building, career change, enhancing influence and life balance. Clients tend to be self-driven individuals from a variety of industry sectors:
My philosophy is to use the principles of performance psychology from an elite sporting sphere and apply to business achievement. To this effect, my first book, “Fitter, Faster, Stronger, Smarter. Training for the performance of life” was published in 2007 by Wiley & Sons in Australia, and is available from Dymocks, who will ship internationally.
My experience working in performance and career psychology for elite sport began in 1998 with the Queensland Academy of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport. From there, I contracted to Australian Rugby and Queensland Rugby to performance coach teams, individual athletes, coaches and staff, on and off the field. Queensland Cricket used my services in a similar capacity and I conducted seminars and individual sessions for athletes and coaches in a variety of other elite categories: Queensland Netball, Surf Lifesaving, Triathlon, Rugby League and Football. I worked with umpires and referees from most of the major professional sports, assisting them to best utilise their influence in high-pressure situations.
I still contract to the Queensland Government to run workshops around the
State on performance psychology for teams and individuals and have been an
expert commentator on Southern Cross Broadcasting’s Radio 4BC for the last
three years. I lectured for six years in performance psychology for sport
and industry at Queensland University of Technology and for the last three
years in Career Development at Victoria University. Since returning to the
UK, I have made numerous media appearances, and am the sports performance
psychologist for Bath Rugby club, for numerous professional polo players,
and am business, life and performance psychologist for The
25 Club, Hanover Square – an exclusive health and fitness club in Mayfair.
I feel passionately about facilitating others to realise their potential and to share that journey as team support. Equally, I am frank about the mindset that it takes to do so: We’re not here for a haircut – and second chances are rare.

"Through the years I have worked with Miranda, she has helped me develop personally and professionally both on and off the field. Miranda has helped the team and I deal with many significant issues throughout her time at Queensland Rugby including change of head coaches, player suicides, team disharmony, leadership issues and team losses. Each player knew you could call on her at any time and she would drop anything to provide immediate assistance." Professional rugby player.

I wrote Fitter, Faster, Stronger, Smarter (FFSS) for my clients and radio listeners to have reference material on the coaching process that I use. Whether you're a sporting or corporate athlete, or wanting to coach the best in others, you'll find it an easy-to-read, systematic guide to performance enhancement. I am also working on my second book.
I give seminars, workshops and keynote presentations on the varied elements of performance coaching for sport, business and life around the country. I also facilitate strategic team meetings and frequently develop workshops and talks for private organisations in business and sport. Please contact me for further information.
